On May 9th the Bradenton Yacht Club held there annual Commodore's Awards Banquet. This year they asked the Manatee River Pram Fleet to participate. We were served with a wonderful salad bar and fabulous Italian Buffet. The social started at 6:00 pm and dinner was served at 7:00 pm. After the yacht club gave there awards, it was our turn.
Our Director of Sailing, Danny Wiedenhoft presented awards on behalf of the Pram Fleet. After thanking the former commodores, the yacht club Board of Directors and it's staff and the Pram Fleet Board of Directors we began our awards presentation.
We started off by giving the Spirit award to Chris Turcotte. Chris recieved the Spirit award because when somebody is feeling down he always tries to cheer them up. He always seems to have a great joke on hand also.
The next award being presented was the Broken Mast Award. Nica Ellis received this one. She received this award because at the Sarasota Sailfest Regatta she was sailing in 30-40 knots of wind when her mast broke. She got a tow in and was determined to rig her practice mast and get back out racing but race committee canceled racing for the rest of the day and sent the sailors in.
The next award was the Most Improved Award. After looking through the results for the year it was pretty simple on who to give this award to. Finishing in the bottom third at regatta's at the beginning of the year to placing 3rd in the last one was Paul Nolan. Paul worked hard all year to continue to improve and achieve this award.
The next two (2) awards are the same but separated by fleet's. This award is the Best Skipper Award. Receiving this award for Green Fleet was Brooke Conrad. Although Brooke recently moved up the Red, White, Blue Fleet he sailed in Green Fleet all year and did very well. He won 3 regatta's and placed well in many more. Receiving this award for RWB was Ben Boulch. Ben has done well in all the regatta's he has attended and has earned the respect of his peers for being a good sport along the way.
One sailor, Darby Capellin also recieved an award but couldn't make the ceremony due to previous family commitments. Darby recieved the Mighty Mite award. She weighs maybe 70 pounds soaking wet. Darby always complains about it being to windy and she can'y handle the boat, but she always finds a way to go out and she does's well everytime.
Thanks again to the Bradenton Yacht Club and it's past Commodore's for inviting us to this event. We all had alot of fun and look forward to doing it again this year.
Pictures from the event coming soon!
